Some things are bigger than a logo.
We've been selling Saw 'Em Off gear at Aggieland Outfitters for a long time, and we still think it's one of the most meaningful things we carry. Not because of what it looks like, but because of what it took to keep it.
Here's the full story, and the mascot who's been carrying the torch ever since.
Where Saw 'Em Off Came From
The Texas A&M and t.u. rivalry goes back to 1894, when the two schools first met on the field. But the official Saw 'Em Off logo didn't come around until the early 1990s, when a group of Aggie students created it as a symbol of that rivalry. They eventually sold it to Fadi and Hege Kalaouze, who brought it into Aggieland Outfitters and made it a staple of Texas A&M rivalry gear.
For years, it was exactly what it was supposed to be. Something Aggies wore proudly. A rallying point. A symbol of a rivalry that runs deep.
Then t.u. tried to take it away.
The Game That Started the Fight
Thanksgiving Day, 2007. The Aggies, led by Coach Francione, beat their Big 12 rivals 38 to 30 in front of 82,600 fans at Kyle Field. It was a big win, right here in Aggieland, and the kind of game people still talk about.
What followed is where the story gets real.
Fresh off that loss, t.u. filed a lawsuit against Aggieland Outfitters, going after the Saw 'Em Off logo. It felt like exactly what it was: an attempt to use legal pressure to shut down a small family business and erase a piece of Texas A&M rivalry culture in the process. The Kalaouzes were facing the possible loss of something they'd spent years building, and the logo that meant so much to so many Aggies was suddenly at risk.
The Aggie Community Showed Up
If t.u. thought that would be the end of it, they didn't know Aggies very well.
The Save Saw 'Em Off Campaign took off, and Aggies from near and far showed up in a big way. The kind of support that reminded everyone what the 12th Man tradition actually means. At Texas A&M, the entire student body is the 12th Man. They stand the whole game, ready to be called upon if needed. That's exactly what happened here.
An amicable settlement was reached. The Saw 'Em Off logo lives on, slightly altered, and it continues to represent the fighting spirit of the Aggies to this day.
The Texas A&M Scholarship It Inspired
The Kalaouze family never forgot what the Aggie community did for them.
Out of gratitude, they established the Saw 'Em Off Scholarship, which gives $12,000 in Texas A&M scholarship funds to students every year. The number was intentional. Twelve thousand dollars for the 12th Man. It's a direct nod to the tradition and the community that showed up when it mattered most.
A portion of sales from official Saw 'Em Off products at Aggieland Outfitters goes directly toward the Saw 'Em Off Scholarship Fund. So when you buy the gear, you're part of that too.
Meet Sawyer Horns
Every good rivalry needs a face, and Saw 'Em Off has one.
Sawyer Horns is the official mascot of the Saw 'Em Off tradition, and he takes the job seriously. Part longhorn, all attitude, Sawyer showed up the moment t.u. announced they were rejoining the SEC, and he's made it clear he's not going anywhere. He's playful, a little quirky, and fully committed to one mission: keeping the spirit of this rivalry alive for every Aggie who's ever wanted to Saw 'Em Off.
Sawyer's hometown is College Station, same as ours, but he's been making the rounds. If you've seen him at a tailgate, in a photo with fans, or popping up on social media, that's exactly the point. He's meant to be seen.
You can follow Sawyer on Instagram at @SawyerHorns, where he posts as much personality as you'd expect from a mascot built around 130 years of rivalry. Give him a follow. He'd probably appreciate the support, and knowing Sawyer, he'll definitely let you know about it.

More Than a Logo on a Shirt
Saw 'Em Off has grown into a lot more than apparel over the years, and that's kind of the point. It's not just something you wear. It's something you can b
ring to a tailgate, season your food with, or literally brand into your steak.
We carry Saw 'Em Off beer, seasoning, and even a branding iron alongside the shirts and hats. If you're the kind of Aggie who wants this rivalry showing up in more places than just your closet, there's a good chance we've got it.
The Rivalry Today
When t.u. left for the SEC in 2012, the annual game went with it. Now that they're back, so is everything that comes with it, including a mascot who's been waiting for this moment.
