Why Does Texas A&M Wear Military Uniforms?
This is the question we see a lot from people who are new to the Aggie world, and it has a real answer.
Texas A&M was founded in 1876, and from the very first day, every student was required to serve in the Corps of Cadets. Forty students, six faculty members, and a military structure baked into the institution from the start. That wasn't a phase. It never went away. The Corps of Cadets is still very much part of campus life today, and that military identity runs through everything Texas A&M does, including how the football team suits up.
The Honor and Support uniform leans into all of that. The desert camo pattern pulls from the khaki uniforms the Corps wears on campus. The patch on the jersey references the Aggie Ring, specifically the star and laurel leaf that Aggies earn when they complete their hours. Even the circular shape of the patch is a nod to the wheels of the Spirit of '02 field gun. Nothing on this uniform is random.
It Also Happens to Be the 150th Anniversary
The Arkansas game lands right in the middle of Texas A&M's 150th anniversary year, and that's not lost on anyone.
One hundred and fifty years from that first class to a sold-out Kyle Field in camo. That's the kind of thing that puts the whole tradition in perspective. The Honor and Support uniform is as much about marking that milestone as it is about the game itself.
